Nestled in the heart of historic Devonport
Devonport Guildhall and neighbouring Column are Regency gems by the architect John Foulston, dating from the early 1820s it is a miracle that they emerged unscathed after the heavy bombing of Plymouth during WWII.
Real Ideas took on the restoration and reimagining of Devonport Guildhall in 2007, opening its doors to the public in 2010 as a space for events, co-work and community activity
Following the renovation and reopening of the Guildhall, work began to restore the neighbouring Column which opened to the public in May 2013, allowing visitors to climb the 138 internal spiral steps to reach the viewing platform for the first time since the 1970s.

Heritage Restrictions
Whilst we work to ensure the building is fully accessible to all, we are limited by the heritage building in which we work. The listed building and historic location have certain constraints which unfortunately we cannot avoid or adapt. Where possible we have improved accessibility by ensuring lift access is available however please be aware that some ground floor areas, exterior floors have uneven ground and narrow steps with may limit access to wheelchairs and prams. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the building, Devonport Column does not have access for wheelchairs or prams. You can walk, drive, cycle or use public transport to Devonport Guildhall. You’ll find us at the top of Ker Street in Devonport.
Drive
Plymouth’s City centre is a short 6-minute car journey away. If travelling from Cornwall take the Tamar Bridge, A38, A3064 and B3396 to George St in Devonport then take the turning for Ker Street. There are also alternative routes from the Tamar Ferry.
There is plenty of on street parking in the local area, we do however ask that visitors are respectful of local residents requiring parking and access their homes.
Bus
The following buses have routes that pass near Devonport Guildhall: 21, 21A, 34.
Train
Devonport train station is a 20 minute walk or 5 minutes by car, and Plymouth station is a short bus or car journey, or around 40 minutes on foot.
