Located by the sea in the stunning south west corner of Plymouth, Ocean Studios is Real Ideas’ hub of creative energy and a space for exhibitions in the city.

Ocean Studios is home to a collective of resident artists, beautiful co-work space, amazing workshops, regular events, and a public café and courtyard.

Facilities

Emerge co-work – Emerge adds ‘wow!’ to your workday. Wonderfully bright, with a range of desks, cosy nooks, and cool collaboration space.

Exhibitions and events – Courtyard level gallery and a flexible upper level space for larger events and workshops – see what’s on.

Real Ideas café – Great coffee, sweet treats, and retail. Purchase handmade goods from south west artists and lovingly made fresh bread.

Workshops Try your hand at ceramics with the Pottery at Ocean Studios, get inky at Kiss & Bite letterpress, print studios or explore textiles with Make at 140‘s sewing workshops.

Access to the co-work and meeting rooms is managed via our membership, to sign up visit our membership page.

Opening times

The co-working facilities at Ocean Studios are open to members 7 days a week, to book your co-working slot through the members’ portal. Please read our current COVID guidance before visiting.

The Real Ideas café and gallery space at Ocean Studios is open Monday – Friday 8:30am-5pm and Saturday – Sunday 10am-5pm.

Heyl Bakery offer fresh bread ‘click and collect’ on Fridays from 11am-2pm, order your loaf here.

The Royal William Yard

The wider work/life culture of ‘The Yard’ makes Ocean Studios a brilliant choice for a co-work location in Plymouth.

Find wild swimmers bobbing in the waters of Firestone Bay (5 minutes from OS), or for a luxe post work wind down, enjoy Royal William Yard’s boutique shopping destinations and great eateries.

Heritage Restrictions

Whilst we work to ensure the building is fully accessible to all, we are limited by the heritage building and land in which we work. The listed building and historic location have certain constraints which unfortunately we cannot avoid or adapt.

Where possible we have improved accessibility by ensuring lift access is available however please be aware that areas of Royal William Yard and our buildings has uneven ground and narrow steps with may limit access to wheelchairs and prams. For further information please contact us or whilst visiting Ocean Studios please speak to a member of staff.

How to find us

Ocean Studios, The Factory Cooperage, Royal William Yard, Plymouth PL1 3RP.

You can drive, sail or walk to Ocean Studios, Plymouth city centre is 20-minute walk or a 12-minute cycle away. Find us at The Factory Cooperage, opposite the Clubhouse with the red telephone box.

Drive

From Plymouth City Centre take A374 to Durnford Street in Stonehouse. From Cornwall take the Tamar Bridge, A38, A3064, B3396 and A374, continue onto Durnford St until you reach the yard. There are plenty of Pay and Display car parking spaces at Royal William Yard.

Bus

The number 34 bus travels from the city centre and stops at the Royal William Yard roundabout.

Train

The closest mainline station is Plymouth. Ocean Studios is a 30-minute walk away or a short bus or taxi ride from the train station.

Boat

The ferry runs every hour from the Barbican to Royal William Yard, or you can travel from Cornwall on the Cremyll Ferry to Stonehouse.
